About
Here is our own little who, what, where and why for…
My name is Steven, my wife’s name is Linda and we have two lovely children. We are very happy to live in San Luis Obispo California among many lovely friends and neighbors.
Steven started this website with the thought of documenting some things pertaining to computing and software that he and others may find useful.
However, as time has gone by, we have discovered there are many other useful things that we would like to jot down that are not necessarily related to computing, things like parenting, gardening, and maybe even politics!?
So if you have read this far, thank you for stopping by. We hope that your visit is a pleasant one.

I just got done doing about four loads of laundry with soap nuts. I had never used this product before, and was anxious to see the results with different types of laundry, different types of stains/dirt. I ran a side-load washer on hot with a pre-wash, it was a triple loader, and I used one of your medium-sized bags of soap nuts, which cost me two dollars. There are about ten soap nuts in the bag. I’m not sure what to make of it. Most of the clothes seem to be relatively clean. But I noticed a few pieces of clothing with stains even after going through the wash with hot water, so those will be going back in next time with conventional detergent. Did I do something wrong? I followed the instructions I got from steve, which were basically to put a bag of soap nuts in with the wash. He said to take out half the soap nuts for a double load, and since it was a triple load, i just used all of them. Let me know if you have any advice.
Hi Adam! Sorry to leave you hanging for so long! Stains can definitely be a challenge. For tough stains we pre-treat with a product called Ecover. Be careful of using hot water though, as that can cause stains to “set”. Otherwise it sounds like you did everything fine. I think we all have a difficult time using less soap nuts. But really, they go a long way. I know I have a hard time believing it, and ultimately wind up putting more in for my dishes than I need to. But darn I love the way my hands feel afterward! Hah!
